Studio Sessions
One hour of design mentorship, tailored to you.
What are Studio Sessions?
Studio Sessions are a 1:1 virtual mentorship call where we chat all things design and creativity, tailored to your goals. If your goal is finding a job, let’s review your portfolio and resumé. If your goal is starting a design biz, let’s talk about strategies to get that going. This is a mentorship power hour, and although I have suggested ways that we may structure the time, we can use the hour how you want.
This offering is for intended for design students, designers within a few years of graduation who are seeking to enter the workforce within the design / creative industry, or designers who are making an industry / job transition. Typically these sessions will be used for portfolio review and feedback and how to beef up your applications for best results.
Who is this for?
We will meet virtually – and you can grab your cuppa coffee (or matcha, or emotional support water bottle), and then, prepared with your portfolio in hand, we’ll get into it! My aim is to offer a supportive, honest and encouraging space to discuss your aspirations (and let’s be real – frustrations) within the field of design, and provide insights from my own experience to help support your goals.
What’s the vibe?
The rate for the 1-hour Studio Session is $120 CAD + HST, payable by or on the chosen day of our session.
Investment
To get the very most of your time, I recommend that you fill out all fields of the sign up form, and send your portfolio and resume at least a few days in advance of our call (don’t worry – it doesn’t need to be finished / polished – that’s the whole point here)! This information will help give context to who you are as a designer and person, and will allow me to meet you where you’re at.
How should I prepare?
My background
If you’ve made it this far, then you probably know my name is Chelsea – hello! I am a Graphic Designer, Art Director, and (mostly) solo-design studio owner based just outside of Ottawa Ontario, working with clients across Canada. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Design (B.Des) from the former York University/ Sheridan College YSDN program. School was a great starting point for me, but it is my belief that continued learning within the field of design, and having your work evaluated by peers whenever possible has the potential to truly expedite your growth within the industry. Now I understand it can feel vulnerable to share a half-baked portfolio, but I promise it’s better to get a seasoned eye on it before you flesh out the whole thing. I bring over a decade of experience, starting as an intern many years ago, to currently maintaining a six-figure business from year one – and I sincerely hope to be a helpful and honest guiding force for emerging designers to get that foot in the door.
